"A good breakfast is about so much more than food. It's comfort, nourishment and the chance to start the day with dignity. Every person deserves access to a healthy meal and a warm welcome."

Steve Strang, Chef & Breakfast Coordinator

The first step toward stability

Fletcher Street Cottage

Fletcher Street Cottage is a welcoming, community-led space in Byron Bay that provides practical and emotional support for people facing hardship. Individuals and families can access breakfast, showers, laundry, health and housing referrals as well as friendly faces who meet them with respect and care. It’s a low-barrier environment designed to offer dignity and connection, no matter someone’s circumstances. With a strong network of local service providers and 110 volunteers, the cottage is often the first step toward stability. Whether someone is in crisis or simply needs a hand, Fletcher Street cottage is here to suport and listen.

Is the one that saves lives

Byron’s Best Breakfast

Held Tuesday to Friday from 7am to 9am, Byron’s Best Breakfast serves free hot meals to anyone doing it tough. But it’s about more than food. It’s about being seen, feeling safe and starting the day with some sense of routine. Everyone is welcomed into the courtyard at Fletcher Street Cottage, where they can eat, rest and connect with volunteers and support staff. It’s a gentle and consistent point of care that brings dignity to the start of each day and creates opportunities for people to access the broader support they may need to move forward.

Your donation brings warmth and hope

Get Involved

The best way to support Byron’s Best Breakfast is to donate. Just $7.50 funds one hot breakfast and your contribution ensures we can keep serving over 200 meals every week. Donations help cover food, hygiene supplies and kitchen operations. And they also sustain the network of care that begins with that simple morning ritual. You can help by spreading the word or volunteering a few hours of your time. But it’s financial support that keeps this lifeline open. Every dollar you give helps someone start their day with nourishment, connection and hope.

Where support begins with breakfast

More Than a Meal

A meal is just the beginning. Byron’s Best Breakfast is often the first point of contact between someone in crisis and the services that can help them rebuild. People have the chance to speak with staff, access referrals and start conversations that may lead to housing, health care, employment, domestic violence support or mental health assistance. In this calm and caring environment, trust is built and support becomes possible. Your donation doesn’t just fund food: it opens doors to changing someone's life.

"It all started with breakfast."

In Their Words

"I’d been sleeping in my car for weeks while trying to hold down a casual job when someone told me about Fletcher Street Cottage. I came for a meal, but I stayed for the care. That first breakfast was the first time I felt human again. Bit by bit, the team helped me find housing support, and now I’ve got a safe place and permanent work. It all started with that one meal." - Service User
