22nd – 25th September 2026
This week at Fletcher Street Cottage we welcomed new partner Jimmy's Coffee, helped a young woman remain safely housed and provided critical mental health support to a man experiencing crisis. Here’s a snapshot of what happened.
Highlights
- We were delighted to welcome Jimmy from Jimmy’s Coffee to Fletcher Street Cottage, marking the beginning of an exciting new community connection. Jimmy visited with Damian, Steve and Kate to learn more about our work and generously offered to explore an ongoing partnership. We’re incredibly grateful for his enthusiasm and support. Connections like these show what’s possible when local businesses and community organisations come together to care for people doing it tough.
- A successful Hall Foundation grant application enabled us to provide financial assistance to a young woman who had fallen behind in her rent. This timely support has helped her get back on track and, importantly, remain safely housed in the Byron Shire. Preventing homelessness is an important part of our work, and flexible financial support can make an enormous difference when someone is at risk of losing their home.
- This week, a man came to Fletcher Street Cottage experiencing a serious mental health crisis following a family relationship breakdown. After sharing that he was experiencing suicidal thoughts, our team provided a safe space where he could talk openly, feel heard and accept specialised support. Staff connected him with the Acute Care Service mental health team and arranged transport to hospital so he could receive immediate professional care. Moments like this highlight the importance of having an accessible, trusted place where people can reach out during their most difficult moments and be connected quickly with the support they need.
