Byron Community Centre is once again helping locals navigate tax time, with free Tax Help appointments available from 22 July to 31 October 2026.
Delivered by accredited Tax Help Volunteers, the Australian Taxation Office program provides free assistance to people earning around $70,000 or less who need help lodging their online tax return.
The service is designed to make tax time less stressful, offering friendly, one-on-one support for eligible community members with straightforward tax affairs.
Byron Community Centre Reception and Customer Service Coordinator Renuka said the service provides practical support that can make a real difference.
"Tax can feel overwhelming for many people, particularly if they're lodging online for the first time or aren't confident using digital services. Our Tax Help Volunteers take the time to guide people through the process, helping them feel supported and giving them peace of mind."
The program is delivered by trained volunteers who generously donate their time and expertise to help the community each tax season.
Volunteer Coordinator Cathy said the program highlights the important role volunteers play in strengthening the community.
"Our Tax Help Volunteers contribute an incredible service each year. They don't just help people complete a tax return. They provide reassurance, build confidence and ensure community members can access a service they might otherwise struggle to navigate."
Appointments are essential and places are limited.
To make the appointment as smooth as possible, participants are encouraged to set up their MyGov account before attending.
