Australia’s leading legendary Jazz vocalist with a voice as cool as a G & T!
Byron Bay Theatre is delighted to welcome Australian Jazz Royalty…3 x ARIA Award-recipient Vince Jones and his world-class Quartet Saturday April 13th! Led by long time collaborator, musical director and pianist…Matt McMahon.
Jones has set the benchmark for Australian Jazz singers since his emergence in the jazz clubs of Melbourne in the late 70s and early 80s. His local and international career has never hesitated in its musical evolution – a career played in the moment. An evening with the man that gave us the iconic double platinum ARIA-winning soundtrack ‘Come In Spinner’, is an celebration of Vinces highly applauded career - you will be enlightened by his astute observations and wisdom on matters close to him including - our planet, environment, world affairs & profound joy for the music.
Jones has to be the world’s most laid-back jazz singer, relaxed, cool, and unhurried. His smooth vocals captivates the audience as he fills the lyrics with his obvious love of the songs. He’s cool ~ he’s smooth ~ he’s one of Australia’s premier exponents of Jazz!
His voice is a tenor of light sweetness, flowing so easily through the music - the band swings soothes and bathes you in warmth.
An evening of seductive memories and emotions - favourites like ‘TrustWorthy Little Sweethearts’ * ‘Nature of Power’ * ‘Rainbow Cake’ and many more (from his vast 22 album catalogue), each transporting the audience beyond a world of care and woes to the sweet meditation of music and song.
“Jones’ effortless sublime voice and command of his beloved trumpet, will have you swooning under his captivating spell.”
Iain Shedden (rip), The Australian
Working at a high level of excellence is this rare genre-defying artist who creates music without borders. A remarkable interpreter and composer of songs in a contemporary unique style. Confident in his own musical style, he sings like there’s nothing to prove! Known for his unique trade-mark style, with his distinctive warm velvet voice…
Jones has remained relevant and prolific as a songwriter, whilst continuing to explore new musical terrains. His stage passion and voice are as fresh and alive as the first day he hit the stage. Vinces’ longevity in a temperamental Australian music industry is applauded by all, receiving many accolades, awards and much recognition for his unique contribution. Headlining major Oz festivals and frequently invited by Conservatoriums around the country to mentor tomorrow's up and coming jazz students, he continues to be in demand gracing stages Oz wide.
Particular about the musical company he keeps, Jones continues to enjoy playing with the best jazz musicians the country has to offer and his shows reflect the respect all involved have for the art form that is Jazz. Tonight he is joined by ~ Matt McMahon - Piano * Karl Dewhurst ~ Double bass * James Hauptmann ~ Drums * & John Mackey ~ Tenor Sax.
“There could easily be comparisons between Chet Baker and Vince, but I feel sure he would be happy to be in that company”.
