Indian Classical Masters Edition

After seven years, Soul Sangeet – Indian Classical Masters Edition returns to the Byron Theatre, bringing together two extraordinary maestros from India for a rare and intimate evening of raga, rhythm, and devotional sound.

Headlining the night is Sangeet Mishra, a 7th generation sarangi maestro from the legendary Banaras gharana. Carrying forward a rich lineage, Sangeet blends the ancient gayaki (vocal) and tantakri (instrumental) styles of sarangi, reviving the deeply expressive, voice-like quality of this rare instrument. A child prodigy trained under his grandfather Pt. Narayan Das Mishra, and later under the guidance of Pt. Bhagwan Das Mishra and Pt. Santosh Kumar Mishra, his music bridges tradition and innovation while preserving the soul of shastriya sangeet. Now based in Mumbai, he is internationally sought after for both solo and collaborative performances.

Joining him from Kolkata is acclaimed Hindustani vocalist Supriyo Dutta, widely regarded as one of the finest singers of his generation. Known for his deeply emotive and refined renditions of khayal, thumri, dadra, and bhajan, Supriyo’s music embodies both technical mastery and introspective depth. Trained under eminent gurus including Pt. Ramkrishna Basu, Pt. Vijay Kumar Kichlu, and Vidushi Subhra Guha, and continuing under the guidance of Pt. Arvind Parikh, he has performed across India, Europe, the USA, Australia, and China. Notably, he is the first Indian vocalist to perform at the President’s Palace in Rome. Beyond performance, he is also a respected educator and filmmaker dedicated to sharing Indian classical music globally.

Supporting the evening are two leading Australian-based artists:

Shivam Rath (Byron Shire) – a second-generation Indian-Australian musician and one of Australia’s emerging voices in Indian slide guitar (chaturangi). Rooted in both classical training and yogic philosophy, Shivam brings a meditative and contemporary approach to raga, mantra, and sound. Having studied in Varanasi and Kolkata under maestros including Pt. Chhote Lal Misra, Dr. Shibbanath Bhattacharya, and Pt. Debashish Bhattacharya, his work bridges ancient traditions with modern expression, offering music as both performance and transformative experience.

Shen Flindell (Brisbane) – one of Australia’s leading tabla players, initiated into the Benares gharana by Pt. Ashutosh Bhattacharya. Renowned for his sensitive and supportive accompaniment, Shen has performed with numerous visiting Indian classical artists and leads initiatives such as the Queensland Sangeet Mela Association, fostering the growth of classical music in Australia.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
