Women's Yoga, Personalised Support and New Centrelink Access

22nd – 26th June 2026

This week at Fletcher Street Cottage we continued strengthening our wellbeing programs, expanding access to services and celebrating the power of practical, person-centred support. Here’s a snapshot of what happened.

Highlights

  • On Tuesday, Women’s Space held the final session in a beautiful series of yoga classes led by Suzy over the past few months. The final session was especially meaningful, with Suzy bringing her singing bowls to offer participants, staff and volunteers a calming sound bath experience. The sessions have created space for relaxation, healing and connection.
  • We are excited to begin trialling in-person Centrelink visits twice a month, expanding on the current phone appointment model. This is an important step in strengthening Fletcher Street Cottage as a one-stop community hub, where people can access practical support with paperwork, applications, identification and other essential matters in one trusted place.
  • Fletcher Street Cottage Community Support Workers have now completed an incredible 7,081 support appointments, including 4,937 short appointments and 2,144 longer sessions. That’s more than 7,000 moments where someone in our community has been met with care, compassion and personalised support. Our soft-entry model continues to make Fletcher Street Cottage an approachable and unique service for people needing help.
  • Through our partnership with Pets in the Park, one participant was able to access veterinary care for their beloved dog. This support eased significant financial and emotional stress and brought huge relief, knowing their companion was receiving the care it needed.
  • This week, we welcomed the Men and Family Centre team to Fletcher Street Cottage to learn more about their programs, including MEND, Caring Dads and Gender Relations. The visit opened up valuable conversations about future collaboration and ways we can continue building safer, healthier relationships in our community.
