18th – 22nd May 2026
This week at Fletcher Street Cottage we celebrated our incredible volunteers, welcomed a new health service and continued supporting people through connection, creativity and care. Here's a snapshot of what happened.
Highlights
- This week we celebrated National Volunteer Week with a special gathering at Haven Gallery. Volunteers are the backbone of Fletcher Street Cottage and we are incredibly grateful for the kindness, compassion and dedication our 125 volunteers bring to our community every day.
- Between 2022 and 2026, Fletcher Street Cottage volunteers contributed an extraordinary 7,989 hours of service. That's almost an entire year of continuous time dedicated to supporting vulnerable members of our community. Their commitment is a powerful reflection of the generosity and community spirit that makes our work possible.
- We welcomed Phoebe from Northern NSW Health Drug and Alcohol Services, who will now be visiting Fletcher Street Cottage regularly on Fridays. Services like these strengthen our one-stop support model, making it easier for people to access the care they need in a familiar and trusted environment.
- The Homeless Health Outreach Team (HHOT) visited this week, working alongside Fletcher Street Cottage staff to support participants experiencing complex mental health challenges. Together, the teams explored pathways to improve outcomes and assisted participants with accessing identification documents and essential supports.
- Our weekly Art Space continues to receive wonderful feedback from participants. The program provides a welcoming environment for creativity, reflection and connection, where people can explore artistic expression, share ideas and build a sense of community through shared experiences.
