Vintage Clothes, Growing Demand and Staff Wellbeing

13th – 17th April 2026

This week at Fletcher Street Cottage we’ve been supported by our community, reflected as a team and continued to see the impact of our work in people’s lives. Here’s a snapshot of what happened.

Highlights

  • A big thank you to Abbie from Trash Vintage Clothing, who donated clothing pieces specifically for women accessing our services. Support from local businesses like this helps us provide practical care with dignity.
  • We also received warm blanket donations from Global Ripple and the Anglican Church. As the weather cools, these contributions make a real difference for people experiencing hardship. We are grateful for the ongoing support from organisations across our community.
  • This month we saw a significant level of demand, with around 100 visits in a single day and 85 breakfasts served. These numbers highlight the important role Fletcher Street Cottage plays as a trusted support service in the Byron Shire.
  • Our team came together for a group supervision session with Jane Enter, focusing on staff wellbeing, self-care and strengthening our approach when supporting people with complex needs. We also reviewed processes for supporting participants returning after exclusion periods.
  • A former service user called this week to share his gratitude. With support from Fletcher Street Cottage, he has been able to relocate interstate, secure housing and focus on his mental health. Stories like this remind us of the long-term impact of consistent support and connection.
