Byron Spaces Gallery at the Byron Community Centre provides a simple, accessible space, for free, for local artists to share their work. Melodyssey is our Summer Exhibition by local artist Melodie C, which brings together a series of expressive paintings that explore emotion, movement and personal connection, inviting visitors to slow down and engage with art on a more intuitive level.
At the heart of the exhibition is Melodie's deeply personal approach to her practice.
"My name is Melodie C, but I choose to sign my paintings as Melodyssey, a statement that reflects my heartfelt belief that my art is my odyssey."
That sense of journey runs throughout the exhibition, which features work from her Emotionism series.
In these paintings, Melodie explores what cannot be seen but is deeply felt. "In my paintings, I give shape to what cannot be seen but can only be felt. Colour, movement and energy work together to create a raw emotional response, guided by her belief that "what you see is what you feel". Rather than directing interpretation, the works invite viewers to trust their own reactions.
The themes running through Melodyssey are intentionally universal. Each piece is designed to inspire emotional connections that feel personal and instinctive, whether that response is calm, curiosity, joy or quiet reflection. When asked if there is one artwork that feels more meaningful than the others, Melodie’s answer is refreshingly honest. It depends on her mood, a reminder that emotion, like art, is always shifting.
Visitors are encouraged to take their time with the exhibition, allowing space for reflection without expectation. Melodie hopes people leave carrying something intangible but lasting. “I hope they will take with them the feeling of a wave of warmth."
Kate Love, Communications Manager at Byron Community Centre and gallery curator, says the exhibition reflects the purpose of the Byron Spaces Gallery program.
“Byron Spaces Gallery exists to support local artists and provide accessible cultural experiences for our community. Melodyssey shows how art can invite connection and reflection in a way that feels open and welcoming.”
Melodyssey is currently showing at Byron Spaces Gallery until the end of February, located within Byron Community Centre. Entry is free and the exhibition is open to the public from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
