Job description

Fletcher Street Cottage provides breakfast, showers and laundry four mornings per week  for people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness living in the Byron Shire. In addition, Community Support staff provide referrals, information and responsive assistance to individuals using the Cottage. This volunteer role is responsible for the smooth running of the laundry and shower facilities. Shifts are available 6:45am - 9:30am or 9:30am - 12:30pm, Tuesday to Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the smooth running of the Laundry and Shower Facilities by managing the list of those waiting to use the facilities.
  • Inform new service users of the process to use the facilities.
  • Ensure the facilities stay orderly and clean during service hours.
  • Encourage Service Users to do their own laundry and educate them on how to use the machines. 
  • Ensure inventory stays stocked and make lists when items are low.
  • Inform Laundry/Shower Coordinator when items are low.
  • Restocking items or going shopping for more when low.
  • Refill all paper towel dispensers, soap dispensers and ensure cottage is clean.
  • Wash and dry Fletcher Street Cottage linen.
  • General cleaning.

Job requirements

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • Police Check

Desirable Selection Criteria

  • You will be an empathetic and understanding person
  • Have an understanding of a trauma informed practice 
  • Have good communication skills
  • The ability to work in a face paced environment.

  • Ability to work in line with WH&S policies and procedures, ensuring the safety of self and others.
  • Current National Police Check
