VIU: Silent cinema with live sound.

Each performance consists of the projection of silent films with live music, posters made by the illustrators and a Q&A space.

VIU presents an innovative initiative dedicated to crafting and performing original live experimental music for silent films. The pioneers of cinema shine again on the big screen.Emphasizing a commitment to sound experimentation, they diverge from the traditional orchestral soundtracks of the silent film era. Utilizing a blend of electronic and acoustic instruments, Viu invites you into a new dimension of the cinematic experience.Their mission extends beyond music and local collaborations; Viu is dedicated to curating films exclusively directed by women. By focusing on women directors of the silent film era, they aim to commemorate their contributions and shed light on the "invisible" women in film history.VIU is an original idea of Ro Rapoport (one of the founders of Las Pibas, a cultural platform based in Barcelona that works for the presence of more women and other dissident identities in the cultural industry) in collaboration with Zumzeig (co-operative cinema located in Barcelona)

THE FILM: È PICCERELLA, de Elvira Notari. 1922 (Duration 63 min)

During the popular festivities in the city of Naples, Margaratella, a young woman who resists following the system of values and obligations imposed by the Italian society of the time, plays the role of regional femme fatale and sets in motion an amusing game of seduction with all the men she meets with the aim of taking advantage of them.🎬 The director, Elvira Notari, is considered the first female director in Italy and one of the first in the world. Her work has also been defined as a precursor of the later Italian cinematic neorealism 🎞 During the 25 years she was professionally active, she shot more than 60 feature films and about 100 documentaries. Her films are posed as realistic dramas, which she used to shoot directly on the street and often with non-professional actors. In 1930, the intervention of the Fascist censorship stopped her activity and Elvira Notari retired from cinema in Campania, where she died in 1946.

THE MUSICFeaturing: Chelsea Skyeater & Ro Rapoport

Chelsea Skyeater writes music like she breathes air. Since the tender age of five she has been exploring her own emotional depths through music, and now she combines all those feels with her band Sky Eater, which features her soaring vocals alongside rootsy soundscapes to create a contemporary fusion of dub, trip-hop and soulful pop that warms the heart. She is a multi-instrumentalist with a Masters in Music, who plays Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Keys and sings with a number of artists, including Hayley Grace & The Bay Collective, Jesse Morris & the Shakedown, Sun Salute, Mufassa and Tobias. Her goal through her music is for people “To experience a depth of emotions. Find hidden messages. To feel like their life experiences and feelings are heard and validated.”

Ro Rapoport is a guitarist, singer, improviser, composer, cultural producer and teacher from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has been living in Barcelona since 2017.In recent years she has dedicated herself to sound research within the framework of sound art, ASMR and contact microphony, motivated by combining the sound of her electric guitar with materials not destined to sound, using space as a sound poetics. She has made soundtracks for audiovisual projects and in that framework she has created Viu.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
