Not everyone can get to Byron Bay so this year we have decided to take the Hub on the road with our roving Volunteering Exhibition, that showcases over 50 organisations in the area that use volunteers in their work. The exhibition will be on display for three weeks starting at the Ocean Shores Shopping centre on Monday and Tuesday 24th &25th September, then Mullumbimby Tuesday and Wednesday  2nd & 3rd October, and back in Byron Bay on the Monday and Tuesday 8th & 9th October.

We are community-minded folks in this area, the Byron Shire has one of the highest rates of volunteering in the country. The Byron Community Centre runs a volunteer referral service in the Byron Shire with over 55 organisations representing the diversity of our society. We have volunteering opportunities in many areas of life, including wildlife, pets, conservation and environment, aged care and disability, youth services, community transport, homeless outreach, the arts and recreation.

Each year we refer over 200 people to interesting volunteer jobs.  Most of the volunteers say that volunteering has benefited them in many ways. Cindy, a volunteer, says that volunteering has given her a sense of belonging in the community and she always looks forward to her days spent at her volunteer job. Other people find that they gain new skills, confidence and beneficial community connections.

Engaging in volunteer work is a very satisfying and interesting pastime. It creates community, introduces you to new adventures, gives you opportunities to learn new skills or utilise existing skills in a productive way for the community. Come on down and check out the exhibition. It showcases the wonderful work these organisations do for the community as well as listing the volunteer positions that are available at the different organisations.

Seven graphic designers have devoted a lot of time to designing amazing posters for each organisation giving the display a vibrant diversity.

At the exhibition, our qualified volunteer staff will be able to sign you up and refer you to an organisation of your choice. It is always exciting to do something different, come and check out the exhibition, you just might find something that really picques your interest.
