Pop filtered through twisted musical minds
In celebration of their 20th anniversary, ARIA nominated quintet Topology have released their 14th full-length album, a mixtape tribute to influential music entitled Tortured Remixes. Featuring tortured reconstructions of The Saints, MC Hammer, The Beatles, Stevie Wright, Beyonce, Cold Chisel and many more, it’s the 60’s to the present like you’ve never heard them before.
In Tortured Remixes, popular melodies are filtered through the creative minds of their composers, John Babbage, Robert Davidson and Bernard Hoey. The result: iconic tunes stretched, bent and scrambled (almost) beyond recognition, then re-assembled into adventurous new works for piano, strings and saxophone.
“The journey of Tortured Remixes is an introspective one, encouraging us to re-examine our own relationships to popular music” – Kill Your Darlings
“Half the fun of this record is spotting the references for yourself, wandering through the half-familiar phrases and rhythms looking for some tiny shred of recognition to unlock the puzzle that each track is.”– 4ZZZ
“Brisbane quintet Topology have picked apart and restitched some well-known songs into the aural equivalent of Frankenstein’s monster.” – Courier Mail
