Tahir Qawwal & his Sufi Qawwali Ensemble return to the Byron Theatre on the 25th of January for a special sufi gathering. Qawwali is a form of devotional music that inspires deep emotion, trance & dance! It is especially rare to see it performed outside of the sufi shrines in India & Pakistan.
Tahir travels each year to these places to receive the traditional teachings from the masters. Here in Australia he performs with talented musicians from Sydney, who are originally from India, Pakistan & Afghanistan -including the amazing Yama Sarshar on tabla & dholak.
Qawwali music was made famous throughout the world by singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. It is an art form that gives expression to the ‘fire of divine love’ through the mystical verses of Sufi saints & poets which are sung with great energy & reverence.
This is a rare opportunity to share in the ecstatic rapture of a living sufi tradition.
Tickets are available pre-sale for $23 from Byron Theatre box office and online: www.byroncentre.com.au or on the door (on the night) for $28.
Doors Open 7.30pm and show starts 8pm sharp.
Dancing is welcome!
