Local poet and local musician team up again for a night of music, poetry and connection. Talented singer, songwriter, guitar and oud player Shai Shriki and internationally respected wordsmith Luka Lesson, fresh from his collaboration with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, come together for the second time only to create a powerful event of storytelling and musical meanderings at the Byron Theatre inside the Byron Bay Cultural Centre on June 2nd.
The first time these two powerful artists collaborated, they won the hearts (and a standing ovation) from the sold-out crowd, sharing songs and stories from across the Mediterranean and beyond – don’t miss this encore performance of their creative connection.

Music With Refugees
Crowd Funding – An important message from Shai Shriki
Refugees are not a world problem… it’s some people’s reality.
Many people around the world are in an unfortunate situation where they have had to leave their homes, countries and family to escape into the unknown.
Now they are living in makeshift camps with no future, not much to do, and only basic humanitarian needs.
I am going to visit those camps and find the musicians to create some music together, give them some instruments and make a music program.
At this stage I’m going for my first trip to the camps in Greece to meet and find the musicians. I’ll be travelling with a camera man to make a documentary film about the process to be able to share it with the world and get people to understand the situation better through stories and music.
In the past year and a half I have been donating money I have earned from concerts, passing around donation buckets, taking casual donations from my community as well as contributing a portion of ticket sales from the latest ‘Zorba Gypsy Party’ in Byron Shire.
Get on board and help me and my camera man get to Greece and start this ongoing program this July.
This will be the first of many trips and your help is key in putting a smile on people’s faces.
